Alipay and WeChat Pay use in Nepal
Chinese mobile payment apps used by Chinese tourists and traders in Nepal outside the formal banking system. Nepal Rastra Bank banned their use in May 2019, with the threat of criminal investigation for users.
Why it ended
NRB said Nepal was losing foreign income because Chinese tourists used the apps illegally, outside the banking system.
